ItвЂ™s a powerful, if exhausting experience that often leaves one with lingering pain. I know the intense rage-filled fire that turns the coarse sand of experience into the glass of art. IвЂ™ve never been an especially big fan of Fleetwood Mac.

The 19671969 era Blue Horizon albums and 1971 outtakes album The Original Fleetwood Mac have been remastered and reissued on CD, as have the 19751987.

Nicks has openly admitted that Fleetwood MacвЂ™s best work is in the mire of their darkest personal struggles, and itвЂ™s hard to disagree. The discography of Fleetwood Mac consists of 18 studio albums, nine live albums, 23 compilation albums, one extended play single, and 62 singles. For Rumours, the music is the crucible against which the heat of the bandвЂ™s rage can be vented and refined until it shines. Glass is created by superheating sand to such a temperature that it melts and shapes.

It was released after the departure of Stevie Nicks with only the core trio of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Christine McVie remaining from the band's superstar 70's period. Fleetwood Macs was the sixteenth album, and the first in a long time without Stevie Nicks. 'Time' is a bit of an oddball album in the Fleetwood Mac catalogue. You can feel them aggressively facing the microphones and struggling to keep it together. That seems to have been the motto for Fleetwood Mac, as the band prepared to begin recording Time, an album which proved just as average as its predecessor, if not more so. You can hear the strain and barely concealed desire to tear each other to pieces in the same room in songs like вЂњThe ChainвЂќ and вЂњGo Your Own WayвЂќ between the obnoxiously catchy hooks, the gyrating synth-bass, and the majestic guitar work. If anything, the richness is only enhanced by this low-key darkness.ДЄgainst the backdrop of the McVieвЂ™s Divorce, Buckingham and NickвЂ™s relationship trouble, and the eponymous FleetwoodвЂ™s own marital turmoil, you have to really listen for the fact that these guys are in pain. The sounds, which are so pristine, neat, and saccharine, have none of the raw darkness I usually associate with heartbreak, divorce, and acrimony. It took a distressing number of listens to realize that this album is the product of a band in turmoil.

Nicks, McVie and Buckingham have an almost disgusting sense of melody, as if they were dripped in honey. 12-string guitars effortlessly glide like rainbows across sharp sexy electric guitars. This album tastes like chocolate cake by a master chef: Rich, layered, and almost cloyingly in its sweetness.
